A Shrine to Adorable Shin-Chan

FAQ & "How-to"

Answers to some frequently asked questions regarding the content of this site.

What is the Seven Knights Novel?
I get this question a lot, in both email & on the message board. So, for once and for all, I shall tell you everything I know about it. Which isn't much.
For starters, it is a text novel, not a graphic novel. It has very few pictures, most of which can be seen in the manga gallery. Also, it is (as far as I know) available only in Japan, only in Japanese. It has not been translated in English and is not for sale in western countries. I am not aware of any plans for it to come to America.
The former owner of the website Shirayuki (which is now closed) owned a copy that she ordered from Japan. That is where the scans available on this website are from. I have never personally bought, read, or seen the novel. I have no idea what its story is about.

How do I get Pretear episodes?
There are a variety of ways. First off, you can buy the Pretear DVDs, which are now available in America. Any large movie store such as FYE will most likely have Pretear in stock, or you can try online retailors like Ebay. For a small start, the Novermber 2003 issue of NewType magazine comes with a DVD of the first episode. If dubbing isn't a must-have, you can download the sub-titled version of Pretear online.
Start by installing KaZaA or, more preferably, BitTorrent onto your computer. These are file-sharing programs that will allow you to search for and download files from other users. Depending on your internet connection speed, each episode may take one day or many days to finish downloading. The larger the file is, the better quality the picture will be. If you are using RealPlayer to watch Pretear, you may have to install the latest Divx codex.

How do I make my own screen shots?
If you have a Pretear episode on your computer, then start playing it. Playing the file in Windows Media Classic, rather than Windows Media Player, is preferable. When you get to a scene that you like, pause it. On most keyboards (usually near the top) there is a button that says "print screen" or "PrtScrn". Press this button while the paused Pretear episode is visible on your desktop. Then go to any art program and paste. A picture of your desktop should come up, which you can crop until you are left with just the Pretear scene. Be sure that your mouse pointer is not over the scene when you press PrtScrn, or else you'll likely just end up with a blank black box.

How do I make my own GIF Files?
You will need to download a program, such as Jasc Animation Shop 3, that can make GIF files. Such programs will allow you to make a sequence of several screen shots ("frames") and play them one after another, making a small animation. These animations usually look best if the screen shots were taken fairly close together (keep in mind that professional animations have at least 30 frames per second for smooth movement!). Your last step is to save the animation as a GIF file. GIF files usually play faster when the screen shots that make them up are small.

Is Kei really gay?
This subject if open to personal opinion, because there is no solid evidence for either side. In the anime Kei has very feminine clothing, hair, and a light figure. However, in the manga Kei's appearance is much less girlish (though still with the characterisic "bishonen" femininity). Personally, I think that he is gay. If you disagree, then that's fine, and if you want you can discuss it with others in the message board or chat room.
